Research activities:
Within the recently completed research project Open ebXML Laboratory, in collaboration with Stockholm University and the
Royal Institute of Technology (2001-2003), a number of areas was explored, including UMMX, ebXML realization, Business Level Agreements, Model driven business systems, Goal driven
eCommerce, Zachman framework, Balanced Scorecards. Results are slowly being published as research papers, open source code and products.
Research and areas of interest
- T-Architecture:
Is an extension, created by (Tell-Toolsmiths), to the traditional 3-layer architecture that especially considers and simplifies IT-systems that includes electronic collaborationas and eCommerce.
- UMM/X: UN/CEFACT Modeling Methodology eXtensions
How could UMM be extended in order to support modeling of more business domains than electronic collaborations ?
- Business Level Agreements:
Electronic versions of agreements and contracts in order to make them (partially) interpretable, executable and monitorable?
- Legally relevant Communications
How are communications between parties conducted in a legally relevant way? Of concern is dispatch, reach, function, components of information system.
- Modeldriven business systems:
How could resent years trends in (meta-)modeling enhance the building of business systems ?
- Goal driven eCommerce:
It is common practice to set up goals for business processes and activities, how could Goal and assessment models be added to UMM/ebXML in order to “drive” the execution of eBusiness and eCollaborations.

The Zachman framework is a commonly used model for business systems and how does modern modeling methodologies relate to the framework ?
- Balanced Scorecards:
A popular management tool is balanced scorecard and how could UMM be extended in order to support Goals and Measurements ?
